  2018 Conventions

  did they release the 2018 district convention dates and cities yet, i checked the jw website and it only mentions windsor ca for the region of the usa i was curious about.

  Some dates and locations are up but not all as of yet. They probably won't put all up until a week or two. That will just make sure that congregations have had their official announcements before it is posted on jw.org

  George Lucas tinkering with Star Wars films

  just thought i'd start a thread about lucas revisiting star wars films and making new edits - for better or for worse.. first off, let me say that george lucas has a tremendous imagination and star wars (1977), also known as episode 4: a new hope, and the empire strikes back (1980) - episode 5 in the franchise - are two of my favourite films.

  .

  as progress has been made in special effects, including the development of cgi, it makes sense for lucas to go back and retouch the spaceships, laser blasts and light sabres, improving what was 70s and 80s effects.. but i feel that lucas' tinkering has been a mixed bag - some have been bad choices, some unnecessary and others have been good.. what do you think ... .

  Utah law is actually very fascinating. In the civil statute, it says that a civil action can be brought upon someone that negligently permitted the sexual abuse to occur. Though with two very important caveats.

  1st it says that it has to be a living person. Which means that I don't think you could even sue an organization as that organization is a living person.

  2nd that for the person to qualify to engage negligently it requires that the person knows or would have known that the abuse is occurring but it doesn't mean that everyone can be apart of this class. The law states the relations to the child that the person has to be in order for them to be negligent. It requires that they be related in specific ways or that person has to cohabitate with the child when the abuse occurs.

  Also, Zalkin is correct if the abuse doesn't occur on Watchtower property or during a watchtower event the likelihood of winning against Watchtower is very slim to none.

  For a civil matter. You wouldn't be able to sue anyone since your daughter is of age. Your daughter is the only one that can file a civil matter.

  In the state of Utah it was changed in 2016. 78B-2-308 is the law that would cover this matter for civil matters.

  Section 3 covers both the perpetrator and anyone who may have contributed to the abuse directly.

  subsection a. sets for no time limit to file a civil suit against the perpetrator.

  subsection b. sets a time limit of 4 years against someone who directly aided in the abuse. The time starts to run when the victim turns 18 or when the person first recognizes that the abuse has caused harm.

  i know they are trying to simplify but it all is such a confusing mess.... forms, dates, calculators, committees, logins, publisher record cards.....jesus would barf.

  to all bodies of elders re: announcements and reminders dear brothers: in an effort to reduce the number of letters sent to all bodies of elders and congregations, most announcements from the branch office will now be conveyed to congregations by means of the announcements and reminders (s-147) form.

  it is the same number of announcements and information. It is just reducing the number fo times that it gets transmitted to each congregation.

  A lot of it is also the fact that people keep inflating his ego for him. Some of it I am sure is well deserve praise but not all of it. Also the way that he feels that his site is used by experts or how experts come to him for advice, I am sure he is in contact with lawyers and others but if it wasn't him it would have been someone else. These professionals will use whatever resource is available and it isn't because Cedars is this brilliant genius that only he is smart enough for these things.

  John Davis

  He is constantly complaining on his Twitter account how YouTube is not treating him fairly because they aren't paying him for all of his videos. If you read comments on his book on Amazon any negative comments he jumps on and not trying to learn from those comments but he attacks the commenter. He doesn't feel like he can ever do anything wrong and that he is the smartest person in the world.
